Spring Registration Due!!

Welcome back ladies!

We will be beginning our spring semester on January 12th and 13th with a very fun meeting. Bring an unwanted Christmas gift to give away at the first meeting. It can be something you received this year or in years past...something that someone else may love...but you didn't. If you would consider re-gifiting it, now's your chance to give it away to a good home.

We will be doing ZUMBA at our January 19th and 20th meetings so come dressed to workout and have fun!!

Registration will be due at the first two meetings. Please see Shannon Seib to get registered for MOMs this semester. Registration will close January 20th.

Don't forget about your secret sister! Please remember to bring a little something (card, flower, gift, drink, etc...) for your secret sister to enjoy a few times a month. Remember that is doesn't have to be anything big...it's the thought that counts. Also, if you are involved in secret sister, please try to attend the meetings. You may be missing out on gifts from your secret sister because they can't be delivered or won't last until next meeting!

Twin Oaks Cafe Mission

During the month of October, our MOMs group ran the Twin Oaks Cafe. Our volunteers enjoyed fellowship with each other while serving church members breakfast tacos, doughnuts, and drinks each Sunday morning. All of our customers left the cafe with a smile and a happy tummy. Plus, we even enjoyed some rainy weather for the first time in months! Thanks to everyone who volunteered to work shifts and to those who donated items, we were able to raise almost $900! All of the proceeds will go directly to missions. Thank you, ladies, for giving of your time to benefit missions throughout the year!

We would like to say THANK YOU to all of you. The Ministry of Motherhood made a great donation to the nursery to buy new equipment and supplies. With the money we have been able to purchase swings, exersaucer, jumperoo, train set, pretend play toys, parachute, and more shelving/bins for room 145. Be on the lookout for the new toys in the childcare rooms they should be arriving soon. Also, while we are talking about toys, if you ever have gently used toys that are in need of a new home please keep us in mind.

Austin Heart Walk

For our first mission this fall, I'm excited to announce that we will be participating in the Austin Heart Walk. Come join us for a FREE, purposeful, active, and fun-filled morning. The 5K walk (not run) is not competitive, so I encourage everyone to participate as we celebrate healthy living and raise awareness about heart disease and strokes. Strollers and children are welcome, so bring your kiddos! If you choose to donate or raise money during the month of September, all proceeds will benefit the American Heart Association.

Twin Oaks Cafe Donations

I am so excited for the fall semester to begin and to see everyone's beautiful faces! During the month of September, we will need to collect supplies for Twin Oaks Cafe. The proceeds from Twin Oaks Cafe during the month of October will benefit our group. We will need the following items:

*one case each of 24 PLASTIC BOTTLES with lids (not cans):

-coke -Dr pepper -Pepsi

-diet coke -Diet Dr Pepper -Tropicana Apple Juice

-water -sunny D -Sprite

*Capri Sun (any flavor)

*one 5 lb. bag of shredded cheddar cheese

We will also need volunteers on October 2nd, 9th, 16th, 23rd, and 30th to work the Twin Oaks Cafe. Working at Twin Oaks cafe is fun and easy. Manda or I will be there each Sunday to set up and help. We need 2 volunteers for each shift from 8-9, 9-10, 10-11, and 1 volunteer from 11-12 on each of those days.

We will have sign up sheets for food items and shifts at our meetings next week, but please let us know if you have certain shifts you would like to work or specific items you would like to donate. Have a fantastic day and I look forward to seeing all of you Thursday at the Welcome Tea!!

Fall Backpack Drive

School Supply Drive

I hope everyone is having a fantastic summer so far. Our July mission will be collecting school supplies for A World For Children. AWFC in Round Rock services about 145 children who are currently in the foster care system in our area. Of the 145 children receiving services, 109 are school age: 39 are elementary, 26 are middle school, and 44 are high school students. Below are the supplies that are needed.

Elementary:

backpack (no rolling backpacks, please)
rounded scissors
crayons (24 pack-Crayola brand preferred)
colored pencils (12 pack)
1 package wide-ruled paper
Elmer's glue
1 package multicolored construction paper
spiral notebook (wide-ruled, 70-page, any color)
folder w/ brads and pockets (any color)
ruler
box of tissue

Middle School and High School:

backpack
packages of #2 pencils
packages of pens (red, blue and black)
2 packages of paper (wide ruled and college ruled both needed depending on grade level)
3 spiral notebooks
3 folders w/ brads and pockets (any color)

Please keep these children in mind as you take your next trip to the grocery store, Walmart, Target, etc. Any combination and amount of donations are greatly appreciated. We will be collecting supplies in the blue MOM's bin located outside the Family LIfe Center at church beginning next week through Friday, July 29th. If you cannot get the supplies to church, please contact Manda or myself and we can make different arrangements. Manda and I are truly excited to be serving you as Missions Coordinators this year. June Ladies Night In

June's Ladies Night In will be held on Monday, June 13th at 7:00 pm. We will be making bracelets. Here is a list of the supplies you will need to participate:

Beadalon 19 Strand wire .015 to .019 gauge wire
Beadalon silver plated 2mm crimp beads (get lots of these)
What ever filler beads you guys would like to use (in the past I have used swarovski crystals (round or bicone or both) and silver plated round beads both)
5mm or 6mm even spacers if you guys want them (cute ones are flat bali 5mm)
Toggles (I would get the pewter ones they are sturdy), the heirloom 2 loop is really good for moms with two kids, a couple of other good ones are the jubilee silver pewter heart or the toggle with curved bar
Letter beads 5mm
You might also want to get a wire cutter and crimper we can use mine but may not be enough to go around depending on how many women will be there. Hope to see everyone there.

April's Mission

Hi All:

Well, Spring has sprung! Nice segway into our mission this month. We will be collecting hardcover books for BookSpring, a non-profit organization that promotes literacy in Austin and the surrounding areas. We had the pleasure of Ladye Anne Wofford’s company at a Friday meeting in March. She informed us that only 1 out of every 300 children in America owns their own books. Now this may sound unrealistic to us as we look at our children’s book baskets and shelves overflowing with various childhood favorites, but this fact is a hard reality and affects the children in our community.

So please feel free bring gently worn or new hardcover books for children 12 and under the next few weeks. Half-price Books always has a wonderful selection, Target has the $1 bins, WalMart has great deals and feel free to look at your own collection if you are ready to part ways. Reading is the key to your child’s education and creativity – shouldn’t we open the doors for as many children as we can?

Ronald McDonald Family Room at North Austin Medical Center

Greetings Moms!

Hope everyone has had a chance to enjoy this gorgeous weather we've had this week.

So, next week's meetings (March 31/April 1) will be our "Mom-to-Mom" spring chat with ladies from our congregation who have children ranging in age from late elementary through college. Just like our "Mom-to-Mom" meetings back in October, this will be an informal type of meeting where we will ask questions about a variety of topics ranging from, but not limited to, discipline methods, potty training, sibling rivalry, school, relationships, etc.

We will have two moms each day offer their past and current experiences of motherhood to us. These women have already gone through the infant/preschool/elementary stages with their children, so what better way to learn from them about what worked or didn't work, as well as hearing the experiences they're going through now with their children to perhaps learn how we can prepare as our children get older.

I would love to get questions from y'all in advance for next week's meetings so that I can pass them along to our mom "experts" so they can get a better idea of what kinds of topics we're looking to discuss.

Example questions....
"Did/do you experience sibling rivalry with your kids, and, if so, how have you handled it?"
"Do you have any discipline methods that seemed to work well for your kids?"
"What advice, if any, would you tell us moms that you wished someone had told you during the first few years of raising your kids?"

This position usually gets a little busy just prior to the beginning of the year, and then tapers off as the year progresses.

Responsible for collecting information for, publishing, and updating the blog on a monthly basis
Responsible for maintaining the Ministry of Motherhood information on the church website, and in the church bulletin
Responsible for designing a slide to be shown prior to all church services

Take minutes at the monthly Council meeting and promptly distribute to full Council for reading and correction

Responsible for all aspects of registration and fee collection at the beginning of the fall and spring semesters.
Responsible for preparation and distribution of member roster and member directory.
Distribute any roster changes/updates throughout the year.
Maintain the Ministry of Motherhood brochure which includes the group purpose statement and description of the group
Makes member nametags
Responsible for design and distribution of Mom t-shirts

Thursday and Friday Leaders

Thursday and Friday Leaders: These amazing ladies are the first face many see of Mom's. They are creative, dedicated, and powerful positive influences on our group. These ladies are held in high esteem by many Mom's years after they have left office.

Our current leaders are Lauren Burden and Leslie Clemmons the ladies in this position are responsible for:

· Preparing and presiding over the weekly meetings including business, announcements, devotions, and prayer requests

· Lead the group through positive, encouraging meeting and council meetings

· Plan meeting schedule for the year and then email weekly reminders for next weekly meeting

· Scheduling guest speakers and planning activities for the weekly meetings

· Communicate with other leader on a weekly basis and meets with other leader regularly outside of weekly/council meetings

· Prepare to hold monthly council meetings and prepare the agenda for said meetings as well as preside over the monthly council meetings

· Serve as a sounding board for other council members in their planning of group activities (such as missions, ladies’ night out, etc.)

· Serve as the “face” of MOMs for both new group members and church leadership

Hi Ladies,

Over the next few days we are going to be posting information about the various positions we have on our Ministry of Motherhood Council. We sincerely hope you are able to read over the job descriptions and prayerfully consider running for a position.

Please keep in mind that being on council is a commitment for the entire year and that each position holds its own rewards and challenges. Some positions (like special events, missions coordinator, and leader) require extensive time commitments over both the summer and whole school year while some (like registrar and childcare coordinator) have a heavy workload at specific parts of the MOMs year; however, every spot on council is FUN and can be tailored to your specific strengths and wants—you get the chance to help our group better serve all our members! This year you will also have a chance to volunteer for committees to help with special events and missions. These are purely volunteer positions and will not be voted on—you will be contacted by the new council members during the summer to discuss how you may help. We ask that you prayerfully consider where you would like to serve as well as thinking about where others in our group might best fit into council before making any nominating decisions.

*Nominations will take place at THIS WEEK’S MEETINGS (March 10 and 11). It will be an open ballot where every member of MOMs may nominate anyone (including herself) for any position on council. For each spot on council, the person with the most nominations will receive a phone call where she will have the chance to accept or decline the position. If the position is declined, the person with the next greatest amount of nominations in that position will be contacted. This will continue until the position is filled. If there is a tie and both persons contacted accept the position, we will hold a runoff election at the March 24 and 25 meetings.

Special Events Coordinator/Co-Coordinator: This position is currently being held by Carolyn Richards. This position really needs someone who is creative and organized. It is also considered to be one of the most fun positions, it is the perfect place for someone to show off how great they are at event planning.

The person in this position is responsible for:

Creates opportunities for fellowship for both MOMs members and their children—in other words, she is the entertainment committee for MOMs
Responsible for organizing, overseeing, and executing the Welcome Tea, Christmas Party, Easter Egg Hunt, and End of the Year Party
Organize monthly evenings out for the group (Ladies’ Night Out and Ladies’ Night In)
Schedules regular playdates throughout the month
Send email invitations and reminders of dates and locations for events

Cup of Joe Mission update

Hi Ladies:

Well, knock my socks off and find me a chair – you ladies completely blew me away with this mission. In my head, I had set a goal of $50 (that would purchase 25 cups of coffee for our soldiers overseas) and I hoped we would reach that amount. You generously gave $115!!!!!!! That is some serious coffee beans! And with the matching program set up by Green Beans Coffee, a gift card was sent to Sabalu-Harrison (today) in the amount of $126.50!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 63 cups of coffee!!!!!! The soldiers can start drinking free coffee in about one hour courtesy of MOMs.

Hi Ladies!

When Laura first sent out the information about our February mission, A Cup of Joe for a Joe, I was excited to know that we may be able to lift the spirits of troops far away from home with just a cup of coffee. I wrote back to Laura to let her know that I was looking forward to this mission because my cousin, Chris, was just deployed to Afghanistan on February 2, and although I wasn't sure if we would be able to connect our mission to his battalion, I was happy to know that someone like Chris would benefit from our donations and support. Laura and I did some research on the mission....and it turns out that we can specify a location that we want our donations to go to!! To top it off, Chris has a Green Beans location almost 100 ft. from his "house" (as he calls it) in Bagram, Afghanistan. He even said that it may just have the best Chai he's ever tasted! My heart was filled with joy to know that we could give to him and his unit!

Chris is a member of the Army Reservist Detachment 26 203rd MIBN (Military Intelligence Battalion). He joined the military right out of high school; serving one year in Korea. Chris met his wife, Amy, after he returned from his service and they now have two precious children, Ben (18 months) and Anna (almost 5 months). He will be gone almost a year...hopefully returning home before Christmas this year. We pray that his time in Afghanistan is not extended and that he can return home as expected. I asked him about his "house"...it's a 7 ft x 20 ft cargo container. There are two guys per container. His roommate is a newlywed. He said that the Green Beans cafe is a trailer...really everything is a trailer. He said it's cold right now and it has been snowing. We aren't sure about his job, given that most everything he does is top secret anyway....so the most we can pray for is that he's safe.

Coffee doesn't seem like anything special...but to someone so far away from home, family, and friends, it can brighten your day. I have no idea what stresses he's dealing with...but the living situation and the fact that he's just trying to get through one day at a time let me know that our mission...no matter how big or small...will be such a blessing to him and the men and women around him. Thank you for your support in our February mission...and I hope that my story about Chris will help make the mission more personal to you.

Dear Friends,

Anyone who knows me, knows how much I want you all to feel included and welcomed at our MOM's events. It has been my mission since day one to try to provide everyone with opportunities for fellowship and create fun, meaningful experiences for you to share with your children. Recently I have noticed that there has been a decline in attendance at our monthly LNO events. Perhaps it could be a reflection on the fact that it has been cold and children have been sick, or perhaps it could be that many of us are on tight budgets and cannot always afford a night out. Whatever the reason or combinations of reasons may be, it led me to think about what I would like to do differently this semester.

Speaking for myself, I know that one of the reasons I so enjoy LNO is that it provides me with a couple of hours of adult conversation with girlfriends. I also know that we are a one income family with two children at COP and we have a budget that doesn't always allow for extras. So, it occurred to me that perhaps I could offer our group something that would allow us to gather and socialize without costing much or any money. I would like to add a new monthly event to our calendar: Ladies Night In!

Ladies Night In will be held at the church in building 5 (the room may vary depending on what other events are taking place that evening at the church). It will begin at 7 and end at 9, however you can come & go as you wish. Ladies Night In is not a dinner event, so you will want to eat prior to attending.

Save the date! The very first Ladies Night In will be on Tuesday, March 8th. It will be an evening filled with fellowship, but also PRODUCTIVITY!! How many of you out there have incomplete baby books, photo albums, scrap books or some project similar to these? I know that I have several unfinished projects just sitting waiting for me to return to them. However, no matter how hard I try I just cannot seem to put the time aside to get them done. SO...this month I hope you will join me for a Ladies Night In. We can socialize and finish some of our unfinished projects! How great would that be to check that project offf of the list of things to do! All you need to bring with you for this night out with your fellow MOM's is your unfinished project and the materials that you need to finish it. That's it! A fun-filled free night with friends! Woo hoo!

I also want all of you to know that our traditional LNO will still be offered every month. This month's LNO on Monday, February 21st is going to be at Mesa Rosa off of 620. If you have never been before, Mesa Rosa has a pretty affordable menu. If you haven't been able to join us yet this year, I encourage you to come. It really is a nice way to get to know some of the other MOM's members, especially those that attend on a different day of the week than you do.

Meals on Wheels

It is so exciting to see so many new babies joining our group! And as we all know a new addition to your family means the loss of sleep, and a more hectic life. With everything new mom's have going on who has time to think about what is for dinner?

To help these families we like to provide them with Meals on Wheels. We like to provide meals for 3 weeks on Monday, Wednesday and Friday's.

To provide the meals we need the help of our members. But sometimes it can be really tough! Afterall we have our own families, and things going on in our life. And we don't always have time to make a yummy dinner.

We want you to know that you don't have to personally cook a dinner if you don't want or have time to. Families will welcome anything you bring! Great meals can also come from BBQ joints, pizza parlors, Mexican or Chinese restaurants.

Since we are a large group we know that sometimes meals might come up for someone you don't know. Please don't let that stop you from bringing them a meal. And don't feel like you have to stay and chat, there is nothing wrong with dropping off the food and leave.

Speaking personally, the meals you provide are greatly appreciated, we know you are going out of your way to help us, and we can't thank you enough for your kindness.

Hi Ladies:
BBBRRRRRR! Who wouldn’t enjoy a steaming hot cup o’ joe this morning, right? A simple pleasure we may take for granted in the safety of our homes or served by our favorite barista in a local joint!

But the men and women who serve our country don’t always have access to the simple pleasures of our daily life. So, this month, we will be collecting donations for Cup of Joe where $2.00 can buy one cup of coffee for a soldier. Spare change is welcome! A coffee cup will be placed on the snack table during the month of February to place your donation.

AND if you want to do something a little extra with your child, please feel free to make a thank you card to send to our troops! These touches of home make a big difference to strangers and/or loved ones who keep our freedom in tact. Thank you for continuing to be such a caring and supportive group – we are a blessed bunch indeed!

Spring Registration

Hey ladies...just a reminder that we will be accepting registration for next semester during the first two meetings in January. Registration will close on January 21st FOR SURE so I can get everything finalized before my baby arrives. Registration for full time members is $65, and alumni is $25. You do not have to fill out a new form if all your information is the same--Just pass your check/cash to Lauren on Thursday, or myself on Friday! Thanks so much!!!

Important Dates and Updates!

Hey Moms,
We have a few important dates and updates for you.

Our annual Christmas party is Thursday, December 9th. An invitation went out via punchbowl and Carolyn Richards. Please check your inbox and spam folders for the invite. It would be really helpful for us to get a good idea on how many to expect this year! So please RSVP. If you didn't get the invite, please let Carolyn know. Also please remember that we will have an optional ornament swap. If you would like to participate bring a wrapped ornament to swap.

Our next playdate is on Monday Dec. 13th and on Tuesday, Dec. 14th at the church. During this event the kids will be able to decorate gingerbread men cookies, or you can bring a gingerbread kit to decorate. If you have extra icing, sprinkles, or candy decorations feel free to bring them if you would like to share them with others! Again this invitation went out via Punchbowl and Carolyn Richards.

We will be opening Spring registration early this year. If you would like to register for the Spring you don't need to fill out a new registration or childcare form. Just give your registration fee ($65) to Sheramee Fowler our registrar. Registration will close on Friday, January 21st so please make sure to be register by this date!

Hi Everyone!

I hope each of you had a Happy Thanksgiving and found a wee bit of time to relax. Because guess what? It’s DECEMBER! Holy cow and that means Christmas is right around the corner. But even better than that is the December Mission for MOMs. We will be Adopting a Family through the Round Rock Serving Center this month.

Within the next few days, we will have the honor of selecting a family that lives right here in Round Rock to help fulfill their Christmas wishes. We will be picking a larger family and donating what we can to make sure this is a Christmas to remember (you can donate individually or get together with a small group for higher priced items).

We will be wrapping the gifts the final week of MOMs (December 16 &17) so if you have extra wrapping paper, gift bags, ribbon, tags, etc. please feel free to donate those items. Specifics for the family requests will be shared with the group early next week. I hope you are as excited about this mission as we are – ‘tis the season!

Race for the Cure

On Sunday, November 7^th, MOMs members donned their pink clothing and participated in Race for the Cure – Austin. We had a beautiful morning to walk, support the families who are fighting this disease and to remember those who have succumbed. Thank you for your prayers and donations – you made a difference to many women and families right here in Central Texas. We will continue the good fight – THINK PINK!

Moms on a Mission

This month the Moms group is running the Twin Oaks Cafe at church. All of the proceeds we make go directly back to the many wonderful missions we do each year. If you are around on any Sunday in October make sure to stop by the Cafe, and pick up a beverage, donuts or breakfast taco.

This past Sunday was our first Sunday in the cafe and it was a huge hit! Many thanks to the wonderful volunteers who helped donate items for the cafe, and those who are also donating their time to the cafe. The Welcome Tea

Today we had such an amazing Welcome Tea! We had alot of fun meeting new friends, and catching up with others we hadn't seen over the summer. This year is definitely off to a great start!

Our first meetings will start next week, on Thursday, September 16th and Friday the 17th. We will be doing small activities to give us a chance to get to know each other!

And if you haven't turned in your registration form yet, No problems! We will be accepting applications until Friday, October 1st. Follow this link to the church website to find the form. Semester dues are $65 and we are taking cash and check. If you are paying by check please make it out to FUMC-RR and put Mom's in the memo line. School Supply Mission

Well, it’s official…we are halfway through summer and school supply shopping is sure to be on your calendar; which brings me to our next important mission for the summer of 2010! We will be collecting school supplies for A World for Children (MOMs has supported this organization for several years and they are so grateful for your contributions). A World for Children (AWFC) is a faith based, non-profit child placing agency licensed by the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (TDFPS) to provide foster care for abused and neglected children, ages birth to 18 years. As you can imagine, they are in dire need of our help to make sure each child is ready for school this year. Now is a great time to donate as school supplies are on SALE! SALE! SALE! So when you are out and about, please print out the attached list and take with you on your next errand run (please note the list is items needed per child and any type of donation you can contribute is greatly appreciated). You will make a difference in a child’s life J.

Please place your donations in the MOM MISSION blue bin in the Family Life Center foyer or give to one of your friendly council members for collection. We will be collecting from today, July 19^th through Wednesday, August 3^rd. I will be making a delivery on Friday, August 6^th to their offices in Round Rock (if anyone would like to join me, I’m always up for company!).

Registration for the Fall

We are very excited that the begining of the semester is right around the corner. Our Welcome tea is on Thursday, September 9th from 9:30 to 11:30am in the church foyer. If you would like to register for the tea and get your kids registered for the Tea childcare please follow this link.

Our first official meeting will begin September 16th and 17th. If you would like to register for the Fall semester please fill out the registration form. You can turn in your form as early as the Welcome Tea or if you like you can turn it in at one of the meetings. We do ask that members pay a registration fee of $65 a semester to help defer the costs of childcare and the costs associated with running the Ministry of Motherhood. This year we ask that you submit your cash or check payment at the same time you submit your registration form. Sheramee Fowler, our Registrar, will be accepting forms and payment at the Welcome tea and during the first several meetings.

If you would like to take advantage of childcare during the Mom's meetings. Please fill out this form and submit it to Dana Anderson, our Childcare Coordinator. She will also be taking forms at the Welcome tea or during the first few weeks of the semester. Please be aware that childcare is filled on a first come first serve basis, and it can fill up quickly.

Please keep in mind that the registration for the Tea and the Fall Semester are two completely different forms. Each form must be filled out independently of one another.

We are really excited about the beginning of this new year! And we are really looking forward to seeing all the new and veteran faces of Mom's.

Easter mission

Our kids had a great time visiting the residents at the Heatherwilde Assisted Living home in April. To celebrate Easter our Missions Coordinator planned several crafts, egg dying, an Easter egg hunt and quality one on one time with the residents.

It was a great time! The kids loved that we started things off with the Easter egg hunt. The staff and residents did an amazing job hiding the eggs! And everyone got in on the fun of crafting necklaces, and crosses. A favorite of all was the egg dying.

Mission Meetings

At last week's meeting, we focused on missions.

The Thursday girls worked on relief boxes for Haiti.

Friday's group decorated for the COP Daddy/Daughter Dance.

Both days were able to hear about the February Mission, Milagros.

Milagros is a nonprofit organization created to provide support for families in Central Texas affected by Congenital Heart Defects.

One of the Milagros' core programs is to provide Heart Bags - bags that contain items that will help a family through the hospital experience - to families and patients who come through the cardiac program at the Dell Children's Medical Center of Central Texas. The hope is that the bag will bring each family some comfort and knowledge that there are many heart families that have been in very similar situations.

Race for the Cure

The MOM group (and friends) participated in the Race for the Cure on Sunday, November 1. We had a great turnout and the group was able to raise $2, 150 for the fight against breast cancer. In addition to working to help a great cause, we were able to have a great time!

Visit to Heatherwilde Assisted Living Facility

The MOM group visited the Heatherwilde Assisted Living Facility this month. The visit was a fun and rewarding experience for the moms, kids and residents. The children dressed up in Halloween costumes and did crafts, read books and went trick or treating with the residents. Fun was definitely had by all!

School Supply Mission

***Letter from the Missions Coordinator***

I have a final update on our Summer School Supply Mission. The response was amazing yet again. You continue to blow me away with your giving. Together we collected $225 worth of school supplies, including 54 folders, 34 spiral notebooks, 4 pencil boxes, 19 packs of pencils, 17 packs of notebook paper, 5 sets of index cards, 25 sets of glue sticks, 4 sets of highlighters, 6 pairs of scissors, 10 rulers, 25 sets of pens, 14 sets of colored pencils, 24 bottles of glue, 61 boxes of crayons, 11 boxes of markers, and 4 kids backpacks! Thanks to each of you who participated. We had so many school supplies that we took the advice of Elizabeth Clawson with the council's approval, and gave a portion of the school supplies we collected to the custodians at our church with school age children and grandchildren. They were very appreciative. The remaining school supplies were taken to A World For Children, based out of Round Rock, for them to distribute to the foster kids they place throughout Texas. They were also very thankful.

At our first Mission Committee meeting in July, we discussed making our annual "School Supply Mission" a Summer Mission since all of the supplies are on sale now, and the kids need them sooner rather than later. The organization we are donating the supplies to is called A World For Children. This organization places children in foster homes locally and state wide. Currently they are serving over 800 abused children in 442 foster homes across the State of Texas. Our donation of school supplies will go directly to the needs of these children, and there are still many things they need.

A World For Children needs dozens and dozens of the items I am listing here below:

Let's stay out of the hot sun and enjoy Lakeline Mall's FREE movie day on Thursday the 16th. They have two movies showing Space Chimps (G) & Hotel For Dogs (PG). Both movies start at 10:00am and afterwards if everyone wants we can have lunch in the food court.

Hello ladies!
This is just a friendly reminder to bring all your fun birthday bag items to your MOMs meeting this week 3/26 & 3/27. We will take a few minutes to assemble all of your great party donations in each of the meetings.

If you missed the last meetings before Spring Break, we had a sign up sheet go around to bring in what you have or to purchase themed party supplies to make up “Birthday Bags” to donate to the Round Rock Serving Center (the bag is for mom to have all the party supplies she would need to have a party for eight). Some of the girls paired up and each will be bringing some of the items to complete one bag, please feel free to do this with someone you know.

Here is a picture of some of the Friday class assembling the “Welcome Bags” for HeartGift. We made 12 MOM bags and 12 CHILD bags between the Thursday gals and the Friday gals. All the items for the bags were purchased out of our MOMs missions funds and cost about $400.

Monthly Missions Challenge Reminder

CHALLENGE = MOMs members of the past, current, and the new members, please consider this as your MONTHLY MISSION CHALLENGE for the ’08-’09 school year to help our Ministry serve Our LORD in our Community by collecting food for the Round Rock Service Center.

Our challenge to each of you is to buy $2.00 or more of groceries each month and bring them to the church for Kristi to pick-up and take to the Round Rock Service Center. This will help feed the under-privileged, low income and disadvantaged people of Round Rock, Hutto, and Wells Ranch. If all of us just do this small task once a month, we believe it will go a long way and serve our community GREATLY! By pulling together as a group we will do GODS work in strength and may the Lord bless our gifts each month.

Some items that are needed by the center are…
Canned vegetables (corn, peas, carrots)
Canned soup
Canned beans (green, black, ranch, refried, pork’n beans, baked)
Canned tuna, meats, stews
Breakfast cereal
Pasta (spaghetti, macaroni, lasagna, hamburger helper meals)
Peanut Butter & Jelly
Toilet paper
Toiletry items such as shampoo, soap & toothpaste

We have placed a large blue plastic bin in the Family Life Center foyer at FUMC and it has “MOMs Missions” on the front of it. Please drop off your bag of items in our bin with your name (if you want) and how much you spent on your items (example = Kristi Rape / $2.00 or example = $2.00). Kristi will collect all the items that you donate and will deliver the items every third Friday (after the Friday session meets/when class is meeting) of each month.

We had a wonderful meeting last week. We thank Janel Pearce, personal trainer, for coming to share her time and expertise with us. As a mom of four, Janel certainly understands our perspective and gave some great advice to us on how to work fitness into our lifestyles. As an added bonus, Janel graciously invited us to attend a FREE Pilates class at Corespeed where she teaches. Corespeed is located in a little red building at the corner of Hwy. 79 and Red Bud. The class times are 8:15 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday. For beginners, Janel recommends attending the first class of the month, as that is when she emphasizes the fundamentals of Pilates the most.

We collected and donated over $800.00 worth of maternity clothing to AGAPE of RR in October.

We made and sold bookmarks at the St. Richard's Episcopal Church / Fall Festival on 10/18/08 to help raise money for Chris McLain / SwazilandProject.

We collected 31 bags ($113.50 worth) of Halloween candy to help withTrunk or Treat - Jr. High Youth Group at FUMC-RR.

We had a great morning in downtown Austin at the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. Our team, the Ministry of Motherhood and Friends, raised over $1200 for this worthy cause! Thanks to all the ladies who got up early to walk. It was a lot of fun!

Twin Oaks Cafe'

The Twin Oaks Cafe' located in Payne Cottage on the First United Methodist Church grounds is open every Sunday to provide coffee and breakfast to the congregation. The cafe' is stocked and staffed by a different ministry group every month so that the different groups might raise money to fund their mission work.

The Ministry of Motherhood will be running the Twin Oaks Cafe' every Sunday morning in November. Please mark your calendar for November 9th, November 16th, November 23rd and November 30th. We will need everyone's participation to make this a successful venture! There are a variety of ways in which you can help. Kristi Rape' will have sign-up sheets for us at this week's meetings.

A Day on the Farm

We will take a field trip to Crowes Nest Farms in Manor this Friday, October 10th. The address is 10300 Taylor Lane Manor, TX 78653 and the phone number to the farm is 512-272-4418 If you'd like to carpool, meet at the church at 9:30 a.m. You're welcome to meet us there of course too if that would be more convenient.
We will leave the church promptly at 9:45
Arrive at Crowe's Nest Farm about 10:15ish
Lunch will be from 10:30-11:30 at their picnic tables
We take the tour from 11:30-1:00
Head out shortly after 1:00

Collection for Operation Christmas Child

One of our annual missions we perform as a group is participating in Operation Christmas Child. Operation Christmas Child brings joy and hope to children in desperate situations around the world through gift-filled shoe boxes. We made 70 gift boxes for OCC in 2007 and have a goal of 100 boxes in 2008!
We need help collecting the following items:

small toys (i.e. Happy Meal toys or the like)
school supplies
hygiene items
other items such as hard candy, socks, hair clips, jewelry, watches, etc.

We will designate an entire meeting in November to filling plastic shoeboxes with these items, wrapping them and preparing them for shipment. This is a major undertaking! Please start planning now to help us reach our goal!
